Hi, friends! We’re back with another monthly recap. We make and do so many things in a month, and it’s fun to sit back and reflect on our favorites. Have you been following along?! Tell us the most delicious thing you made this month!
Things we made and would make again
Katie: The oven-roasted chicken shawarma recipe was by far my favorite this month (and perhaps one of my kids’ least favorite 😂)—I’m already itching to make it again! We also devoured the DIY Chipotle burrito bowls, and though temps are currently reaching (and somedays surpassing 100°F, I made this spring wedding soup once again and was delighted with each lemon-laced bite. These falafel burgers were wonderful, too. Also, my sourdough is back in rotation, and I cannot express how much I love baking it for my family and enjoying it as toast each morning. This olive sourdough with parmesan, thyme and lemon zest blew my mind. Last but not least, we simply cannot stop eating gazpacho and salmorejo, and I plan to continue on this trajectory until the very end of good tomato season in September.
Meredith: I have loved using our grill this month: yummy veggies and chicken and steaks. We’ve been eating lots of watermelon and cucumber salad to go with whatever comes off the grill. I also have to mention the copycat Chipotle burrito bowls because I still can’t stop thinking about them!
Things we bought and would buy again
Katie: I adore oatmeal pancakes (sometimes with pumpkin or mashed banana and sometimes not), and I’ve always loved toasting coconut chips to add on top. Just stocked up on more this month, and I highly recommend them for topping pancakes and yogurt bowls, as well as throwing into homemade granola or muesli.
Meredith: This water bottle for my son. Doesn’t spill, keeps his water cold, and has a cute vintage superhero theme.
Katie: A (cheap, easy-to-use) oven thermometer! Never trust your oven when you heat it up—they’re famously never correct. I hang this little guy on the inside of my oven, and I love being able to see the exact temperature at all times.
Meredith: I cannot stop raving about the Ceres Chill breastmilk chiller. This thing saved me while traveling for work! I wish I had bought it years ago. I’ll never forget when I had to dump multiple days’ worth of milk down the drain after a hotel in Prague misunderstood my request to freeze my ice packs. Nursing moms, take note!
Katie: Still on the topic of kitchen things, my beloved kitchen scale stopped working (I blame it on the move and all the boxes being jumbled around a bit), so I got a new one. I love baking with a scale. Not only is it more accurate, but there are far fewer dishes to do, too! Also, if you’re thinking of getting into sourdough, it’s an absolute must.
