THE Recipe Archive

Well hi there! We spend a lot of time planning meals, trying new recipes, and mentally (or physically—looking at you, recipe cards & binder) saving our favorite ones. If you subscribe to What’s on Your Plate, you’ll know we send out our weekly meal plans every Saturday. Our goal is to feed our families, cook & eat delicious food, and hopefully inspire anyone reading to cook along with us and share their own favorite recipes, tips, and tricks.

That’s 52 meal plans a year x two moms who love to cook, so we’re looking at 104 weeks’ worth of home-cooked meals & inspiration. We’re not so naive to think that every meal is going to knock it out of the park, but that’s not to say that a lot of them don’t.

And this directory is precisely where we’ve decided to collect our favorites. The recipes below are our greatest hits, the recipes we come back to time and time again for family meals, hosting friends, and all the other mundane and joyful moments in between.

We hope it’s useful, and remember to check back weekly, as this page continues to grow.

Chicken

Our favorite (and easiest) roast chicken - Mark Bittman, NYT Cooking

Very hands-off, very high-reward, and very delicious. Best part? Use the leftover carcass to make homemade bone broth!

Pressure cooker chipotle-honey chicken - Sarah DiGregorio, NYT Cooking

Perhaps not the most kid-friendly if they don’t tolerate spicy, but an absolute favorite (quick) protein for burritos, bowls, tacos, and even salads.

Anne Bryn’s white bean chicken chili - Anne Bryn, What to Cook

This one’s great because it calls for rotisserie chicken rather than raw. It’s super easy to throw together on a weeknight and is full of flavor.

Pork

Easy pulled pork - Lauren Allen, Tastes Better from Scratch

Is it sort of weird to use a can of soda while cooking? Yes. Is it worth it? Also yes. This recipes calls for a lot of oven time but otherwise is very hands off.

Lemony arugula spaghetti cacio e pepe - Chrissy Teigen, Cravings

Bacon or pancetta makes everything taste better (or at least most things). This is a quick recipe with minimal ingredients.

Carnitas - Kay Chun, NYT Cooking

Juicy, flavorful pork that’s mostly hands-off and pairs perfectly with beans, rice, and pickled red onions.

Beef

(The easiest) meatballs and (set it & forget it) tomato sauce - Katie Stearns & Meredith Hansen - What’s on Your Plate

Truly non-fussy meatballs, and a sauce that almost makes itself.

Skillet lasagna with leftover sauce - Katie Stearns & Meredith Hansen - What’s on Your Plate

Do something different with your leftover bolognese! Eating the same dish over and over again can be boring, so put your yummy leftover sauce to good use.

Classic pot roast - Billy Parisi

Rich, comforting, melt-in-your-mouth beef that requires a little bit of chopping prep work but is well worth it.

Korean Beef Rice Bowls - Nicole MacGuire, Simple Home Edit

The sweet stir fry sauce combined with the spicy, tangy mayo is just excellent. The rest is up to you: avocado, edamame, kimchi, cucumber, an egg, pickled onions… the world is your oyster!

Hummus dinner bowls with spiced ground beef & tomatoes - Anna Stockwell, Epicruious

Quick, flavorful, and nutritious. Three simple mini recipes whose sum is truly greater than their parts. Also highly recommend mopping this meal up with homemade naan.

Fish

Spicy salmon tempura crunch bowls - Caro Chambers, What to Cook

Build-a-bowl recipes are always a hit in our house because everyone can choose what they like and leave what they don’t! This recipe calls for spice, but you can easily leave it out. It’s the perfect recipe for those who claim they don’t like fish. It’s not fishy at all and is so good!

Salad

Vegetarian

One-pot curried chickpeas - Alexandra Stafford, Alexandra Cooks

Sweet, spicy, savory, and deeply comforting. Best served with flatbraad to mop up the sauce.

Hella green pasta - Caro Chambers, What to Cook

Sneaky vegetables in a beautiful, bright sauce that clings to your pasta? Sign me up.

Soup

Chicken bone broth - Katie Stearns & Meredith Hansen - What’s on Your Plate

Bone broth doesn’t need to be complicated, and this recipe proves it.

Spanish cocido - Katie Stearns, Always Olives

The perfect winter stew, no notes.

Butternut squash soup - Real Simple

My mom makes this butternut squash soup every year at Thanksgiving. I make it far more frequently than that, and I’ve started riffing a bit, adding leeks, sometimes carrots, and an herb medley that includes sage, because sage on its own is tricky to find in Spain.

Bakery

Protein-packed muffins - Katie Stearns & Meredith Hansen - What’s on Your Plate

Lovely chocolate chip cookies - Katie Stearns, Always Olives

Chewy middles, crisp edges, and puddles of dark chocolate. They are truly lovely chocolate chip cookies.

Gingerbread cookies - Lauren Allen, Tastes Better from Scratch

Crisp, tender waffles - Katie Stearns, What’s on Your Plate?

Friends, these waffles are simply delicious. I like them with maple syrup and butter, but the rest of my family can’t help but cover them in whipped cream. They’re wonderful with fresh fruit, too. When I pack them for my daughter’s school snack, I don’t even add anything to them, and they get devoured every single time.

The best sugar cookies - Sally McKenney, Sally’s Baking Addiction

Naan - Meera Sodha, NYT Cooking

A very easy dough to work with that lends spectacular results in the home kitchen.
